Happy Summer Reading 2012

So, ever since I can remember I have always sat down and come up with my list of books to read for the summer.  Usually I list way to many, and I never finish them all, but it's just so fun making my list!  So last night I made up my list.  First I went through my shelf with library books I've recently checked out to read ( I tend to go over board and get more books from the library than I can possible read at one time, but I'm trying to get better!) and I went through my stack of books on my desk of books I want to read.  So, my list includes works of fiction, print and audio, and I've also added a new component to my summer reading list this year, theory books on children's literature and a few nonfiction books.  So, here we go:

Works of Fiction:

King Matt the First
The Midnight Zoo
The Dreamer
Between Shades of Gray
The Unseen Guest
The Dovekeepers
A Traveller in Time
Esperanza Rising
A Tree Grows in Brooklyn
The Magician's Elephant
Catching Fire
Alphabet of Dreams
Mockingjay
Rodzina
Hitty: Her First Hundred Years
Rachel Field's Hitty: Her First Hundred Years
Marie, Dancing
Brooklyn Rose

Theory and Non-Fiction Works:

  1. Great list! I've been searching for new books, so I'll have to browse through yours. Of your list, I've read The Hunger Games books (love them, though didn't enjoy the last one as much as the first two) and Between Shades of Grey and The Reading Promise. I've reviewed all of them, I think. They are all books I'd recommend!

No, I'm off to look at your list and see what I might add to my own reading list...

  2. Holy crap! What an excellent list! I really want to read The Dreamer. Read A Tree Grows in Brooklyn two summers ago and it was so, so, so enjoyable. And you are a rockstar for tackling all of that critical reading in one summer! The Molly Bang is quick but essential. I recommend that one to all people (not just ChL folks!)

Thanks for stopping by my blog! Love all your reviews; am definitely going to keep following :-)

    1. Thanks so much! I'm really glad I found your blog as well, it's really great!! I'm hoping to do graduate work in Children's Lit so it's cool to hear of some of your experiences :) I've heard good things about A Tree Grows in Brooklyn from a friend of mine and now you so I'm excited to read it. And I'm looking forward to the Dreamer, I'm doing the audio and the narrator seems really good.

Here's hoping I get through most of that critical reading, I'm trying to get to a more officially grounded place in my study of children's literature, because I'm actually transferring to a different university and getting the chance to switch my major to English with a concentration in Children's Literature so I'm trying to better prepare myself!

I'm actually going to be at Simmons for a few days in June for the Children's Lit Association conference, which I'm really excited for; are you going to that? Good luck with your job search, I'm sure you'll do great! and look forward to following your blog as well :)
